Charli XCX Talks Her Remixes With Ariana Grande, Billie Eilish & Lorde, Reveals Which of Her Albums She Hates | Ariana Grande, Billie Eilish, Charli XCX, Lorde, Music | Just Jared: Celebrity News and Gossip

Charli XCX opened up about expanding on Brat summer with a little help from the likes of Ariana Grande, Lorde and Billie Eilish.

The 32-year-old dominated this year with her new album, and she extended its reign with the remix album Brat and it’s completely different but also still brat in October.

For that, she partnered with Ariana on a new version of “Sympathy is a knife.” Billie helped out with a remix of “Guess,” and Lorde joined her to work it out on the remix of “Girl, so confusing.”

In a new interview, Charli shared some new details about her collaborations with the pop stars. She also revealed one album in her discography that she really does not like.

“I really wanted to flip out the songs, because that’s what really inspires me about dance music — how you can take one element from a song and completely morph it into something else,” Charli told Variety about the ambitious remix album.

How did she decide who was right for each remix? It depended on the situation.

“For ‘Girl, So Confusing,’ the second I wrote it I was like, ‘I need Ella [Lorde] to be on a remix of this song,’” she recalled. “But I didn’t know how to approach it because obviously it’s a tricky situation. And when I finally did, she actually suggested, ‘Maybe I should do a verse.’ Within 24 or 48 hours she came back with that incredible verse, which made me really, really emotional.”

With Ariana, the Wicked star “gravitated towards that song.”

“She had a lot to say. We went back and forth on the lyrics, talking about all the knives that we both felt in in this industry,” Charli shared.

While Charli didn’t specify how the “Guess” remix came together, she did recall a special detail from the music video shoot: “Billie drove the bulldozer through the wall herself — she was like, ‘I do my own stunts!’”

Brat and its remix album are special projects to Charli. She has much less fond thoughts about the album 14, which she wrote and released before becoming famous.

“God, I hate that album so much,” she admitted during the interview. “I haven’t listened to it for a decade, at least. It was sort of transitional — there are guitar[-based] songs on that record, but also elements of me exploring dance music. Some of those songs are terrible, but I think there was a style there, a direction, that a few people caught on to.”

If you missed it, Charli recently revealed what music she listened to this year.
