Look, there’s no way around a bunch of exes being stuck in a room together for the annual ceremony. But it’s a big room. They don’t have to be so close!
But at the 97th annual Academy Awards on Sunday, Lily-Rose Depp helped present the award for Best Costume Design alongside Elle Fanning, John Lithgow, Connie Nielsen, and Bowen Yang — actors who appeared in the films nominated in the category. Makes sense, right?
For each film, the associated actor said a few words about the costuming as wardrobe concept art appeared on screens behind them. Elle appears in the Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown, which stars Timothée Chalamet — AKA Lily-Rose’s ex! So when costumes from that movie were shown on the screens behind each one, guess who popped up behind Lily-Rose?? Yup, you guessed it: Timmy! A complete known faux pas!

Not only was Timmy’s pic paired with Lily-Rose, the actor himself was just feet away from the stage, sitting in the front row with his now-girlfriend Kylie Jenner. Yeesh! See (below):

The messy decision rang loud across social media, where users were quick to call out the situation. On X (Twitter), viewers were sus right away this wasn’t an unfortunate coincidence, writing things like:

Ooooo, so messy! Especially after all the recent copycat allegations! Are they trying to start drama with Lily-Rose and Kylie? We mean, it really does seem like they could have prevented it so easily…
It should be noted that Lily-Rose has also since moved on, too. She’s happily with singer 070 Shake… But that doesn’t really make things less awkward!
