This idea that whether or not his legacy is going to stand up in the way that he wanted to frame it tonight is going to depend on what happens in November, because if in fact Kamala Harris, the presumptive nominee, loses to Donald Trump in November, there are going to be so many questions for the Democratic Party to soul-search about how they got to a point where they denied themselves a primary process, a crucible that could have produced perhaps a stronger candidate.
