An upcoming Investigation Discovery series Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV released a trailer on Tuesday featuring former child actor Drake Bell.
According to a press release from Investigation Discovery via Variety, the clip “reveals that former Nickelodeon star Drake Bell will be sharing publicly, for the first time, the story of the abuse he suffered at the hands of Brian Peck, his former dialogue coach who was convicted in 2004 for his crimes against Drake and ordered to register as a sex offender.”
Peck, who was convicted of sexually abusing a Nickelodeon child actor in 2004, worked as a dialogue coach on Nickelodeon’s All That and The Amanda Show. Bell starred on the latter from 1999 to 2002 before featuring in his own series, “Drake & Josh,” which launched in 2004.
Peck was arrested in August 2003 on a charge of lewd acts with a child. According to a press release from the Los Angeles Police Department, the abuse occurred approximately two years prior at Peck’s residence, and at the time, Peck was coaching the victim. The investigation into Peck began after the child’s family reported that the dialogue coach had molested the minor over a six-month period.
A rep for Bell did not immediately respond to Rolling Stone‘s request for comment. Attempts to reach Peck were unsuccessful.
The four-part series premieres March 17 and examines Nickelodeon‘s complicated legacy. It includes interviews with former child stars and employees who detail the trauma and alleged abuse they say they encountered on some of the most popular kids series. The original trailer for Quiet on Set described prolific writer and producer Dan Schneider as “Nickelodeon’s Golden Boy,” detailing his influence on comedy series starring children and young adults with children as their audience — he was involved with creating and producing multiple shows, including Zoey 101, iCarly, Victorious, Drake & Josh, Sam & Cat, The Amanda Show, and more.
“For 20 years, he shaped children’s entertainment and culture. But that marked one of the darkest chapters,” writer Scaachi Koul says in the original trailer.
