Eater Relaunches Cooking and Lifestyle Vertical, Eater at Home

Today, Eater announced the relaunch of its vertical Eater at Home, expanding its voicey and well-reported lifestyle journalism even deeper into the realms of home cooking and entertaining. The effort is led by James Beard Award winner and two-time IACP Award winner Rebecca Flint Marx, who joined Eater in September 2019 as its features editor, editing longform pieces about the intersection between food, culture, identity, and politics; she was named editor of the Home section in February 2021.

“To be an Eater at Home reader is to feel empowered to make smart — and sometimes fun and unexpected — choices” when it comes to dining in and cooking at home, Marx says in an editor’s note. The relaunched section will expand on that goal “with a mix of new and existing columns and the same exciting stories that have characterized the site from its beginnings.” Eater at Home launched as part of Eater.com in April 2020, at a time when so many of us were looking for more ways to get creative in our kitchens, and has grown in scope and audience ever since. Earlier this year, Eater at Home debuted Dinner Party, a section of Eater at Home dedicated to helping readers entertain like the pros.

The relaunch, sponsored by Coca-Cola, includes new columns like Back of the Box, dedicated to the recipes published on product labels, and Is It Worth It?, providing honest assessments of time-consuming cooking techniques. Eater is also introducing a new series from Eater’s Emmy- and James Beard Award-winning video team, best known for granting viewers unparalleled access to professional chefs and restaurant kitchens around the world. The new shows — “Give a Chef a Chicken” and “On the Fly” — will bring that expertise into the home kitchen, with featured chefs both informing and inspiring the channel’s 3.64 million subscribers. Eater’s TikTok and Instagram accounts will bring even more cooking advice and storytelling to short-form video, with upcoming shows tackling everything from grocery hauls to kitchen tips. And in a new bi-monthly newsletter, Dining In, Marx will share her unique perspective on all things entertaining, cooking, and what’s worth eating direct to readers’ inboxes.

As a whole, Eater at Home aims “to celebrate the spirit of restaurant dining,” Marx says, “and translate that into a lifestyle for those who want to bring the experience of dining out to the act of dining in.”

The Eater at Home relaunch complements other recent brand forays into readers’ kitchens. Eater’s first cookbook, Eater: 100 Essential Restaurant Recipes from the Authority on Where to Eat and Why It Matters, was released by Abrams in September 2023. The brand’s collaboration with Heritage Steel, Eater’s first foray into cookware, launched with a 10-item stainless steel cookware collection in November 2023.
