‘The Bear’ Season 3 Will Air in June – IndieWire

“The Bear” will return for its third season on FX on Hulu this June.

FX chairman John Landgraf announced the news during the network’s Television Critics Association (TCA) presentation on Friday, February 9, adding that like the prior seasons, all episodes will be available at once rather than be released week-to-week.

But if you want any more details than that, Landgraf didn’t have them. Asked if there will be more guest stars like in the “Fishes” episode that featured Jamie Lee Curtis, Bob Odenkirk, John Mulaney, Gillian Jacobs, Sarah Paulson, and Jon Bernthal, Landgraf said he’ll be waiting to see what creator Christopher Storer comes up with just like everyone else.

“Unfortunately, I can’t. I was surprised as you were when the Christmas episode came through the door,” he said (via Variety).

“The Bear” has dominated the awards season and been one of FX’s biggest recent hits. The show about a Chicago-based chef (Jeremy Allen White) who returns home to help run his deceased brother’s Italian beef restaurant, in its second season won Outstanding Comedy Series from the Emmys (and yes, it is definitely a comedy), as well as nine other Emmys this year.

IATSE will soon be in negotiations with the studios

Where the series goes in its third season is anyone’s guess. When we last left Carmy, he had just opened his new restaurant The Bear but found himself trapped in the restaurant’s walk-in refrigerator, as well as trapped within his own self-doubt, anxiety, and inability to love himself or anyone else.

As part of its TCA presentation, FX also officially declared that Peak TV, a term that Landgraf had coined, was now over. Of original scripted series made for adults in 2023 across broadcast, cable, and streaming, only 516 shows were released, representing a 14 percent drop from 2022, when the number of shows hit a record 600 (via Variety). The drop was the largest since FX began recruiting its research team to count such figures over two decades ago.

The strikes from the writers and actors guilds had something to do with that, but the damage was already being done.

“The drawdown of production was likely underway even before the strike shuttered all production,” Landgraf said. “The realignment of industry priorities from streaming scale at any cost to profitability continued after the strikes, leading to the cancellation of numerous projects.”

“The Bear” stars Jeremy Allen White, Ayo Edibiri, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Abby Elliott, Lionel Boyce, Liza Colón-Zayas, Matty Matheson, Edwin Lee Gibson, Richard Esteras, and Jose M. Cervantes. Molly Gordon last season joined the cast as Carmy’s love interest Claire.
