It’s official – Sergio “Checo” Perez is no longer an Oracle Red Bull Racing driver in Formula 1.
The 34-year-old Mexican F1 driver joined the team in 2021 and over a week after the final race of the 2024 season, and months of rumors and speculation, he and the team have announced they have part ways.
This doesn’t come as much of a surprise to many as Checo has had a lackluster second half of the season, only scoring nine points in the last eight grands prix of the year. He came in eighth in the drivers championship this year, his worst placement since joining the team.

“I’m incredibly grateful for the past four years with Oracle Red Bull Racing and for the opportunity to race with such an amazing team,” he shared in a statement. “Driving for Red Bull has been an unforgettable experience and I’ll always cherish the successes we achieved together. We broke records, reached remarkable milestones, and I’ve had the privilege of meeting so many incredible people along the way.”
“A big thank you to every person in the team from the management, engineers and mechanics, catering, hospitality, kitchen, marketing and communications, as well as everyone at Milton Keynes, I wish you all the best for the future,” Checo continued. “It has also been an honour to race alongside Max [Verstappen] as a team mate all these years and to share in our success. A special thank you to the fans around the world, and especially to the Mexican fans for your unwavering support every day. We’ll meet again soon. And remember… never give up.”
Red Bull Racing Team Principal Christian Horner shared, “I would like to thank Checo for all he has done for Oracle Red Bull Racing over the past four seasons. From the moment he joined in 2021 he proved himself to be an extraordinary team player, helping us to two constructors’ titles and to our first one-two finish in the drivers’ championship.”
“His five wins, all on street circuits, were also a spectacular mark of his determination to always push to the limit,” he continued. “While Checo will not race for the team next season, he will always be an extremely popular team member and a treasured part of our history. Thank you, Checo.”
Throughout his time with Red Bull, Sergio picked up five wins and 29 podiums, helping the team secure its first 1-2 in the drivers championship, and helping them win the constructors championship in 2022 and 2023.
Who will replace Sergio and race alongside Max Verstappen in 2025? That’s between their two Visa Cash App RB Formula One Team drivers, Yuki Tsunoda and Liam Lawson.
Earlier this month, it was reported that Liam is the favorite to be moved up to the Red Bull seat, with Formula 2 driver Isack Hadjar being promoted to to F1 next to Yuki.
