Actress Valerie Mahaffey has died at the age of 71.

Valerie passed away on Friday (May 30) in Los Angeles after a battle with cancer, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

Valerie was known for playing eccentric characters across her five-decade career. In 1992, she won an Emmy Award for playing Eve in the CBS show Northern Exposure from 1991-1994. She was also known for playing Alma Hodge on ABC’s Desperate Housewives from 2006-07, and had a recurring role of the teacher Victoria MacElroy on CBS’ Young Sheldon from 2017-20.

She starred alongside Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini by playing Lorna Harding on Netflix’s Dead to Me from 2019-22. In 2020, she played the role Madame Reynard in the film French Exit. Valerie‘s most recent credit is playing the character of Maggie Chesborough in the Apple TV+ action-thriller series Echo 3 in 2022.
