Tiësto Super Bowl 2024 DJing Gig Cancelled Following Family Emergency

Tiësto Super Bowl 2024 DJing Gig Cancelled Following Family Emergency

The Super Bowl will have to wait another year to have its first in-game DJ. On Thursday afternoon, just days before the big event, Tiësto announced his decision to pull out of the gig he had spent months preparing for due to a family emergency. In the new role, he was to be tasked with keeping the music going during the pre-game and game breaks.

“Me and my team have been preparing something truly special for months, but a personal family emergency is forcing me to return home Sunday morning,” Tiësto posted on X (formerly Twitter). “It was a tough decision to miss the game, but family always comes first. Thank you to the NFL for the collaboration and looking forward to working with them to deliver something incredible together in the future!”

The DJ and producer currently has two appearances scheduled in New York at Brooklyn Hangar on Feb. 8 and 9, as well as a separate Las Vegas appearance planned for the eve of the Super Bowl on Feb. 10. These events have not yet been postponed or rescheduled.

Super Bowl LVIII will take place at Allegiant Stadium, not too far from the pulsing heart of Las Vegas, where the likes of Zedd, lllenium, the Chainsmokers, Alesso, and more are scheduled to perform this weekend at various clubs and venues. A replacement for Tiësto, should there be one selected, has not been confirmed for Super Bowl Sunday.

Tiësto recently released “Sunglasses at Night,” his collaboration with Heidi Klum. In an interview with Rolling Stone, the musician reflected on his relationship with club culture and dance music. “I was born in the club, so I was always clubbing since I was 15, 16 years old. I got so much inspiration from going to Belgium to massive clubs there,” he explained. “And also, I used to go on vacation in Mallorca. I would go to BCM, a mega club back then. There would be, like, five DJs performing and dancers, and they’d play ‘Pump Up the Jam’ by Technotronic. That was really a special time for me.”
