Full English Breakfast

A traditional English breakfast, also known as a full English breakfast, is a cacophony of meat, eggs, vegetables, and bread that is sure to fill you up for the day. Back bacon, eggs, traditional English sausage (bangers), black pudding, baked beans, tomato, mushrooms, and toasted soft bread all nestle onto the plate. Here, we call for canned Heinz baked beans, which are available in almost every grocery store in England, but if you’d like to make them from scratch, these homemade English Baked Beans take this dish to the next level. Serve this meal with English breakfast tea for the full English experience.

What is black pudding?

Black pudding is a sausage made from pig or cow blood, onions, oats (or barley), herbs, and spices. It’s also called blood pudding or blood sausage in England, boudin noir in France, and morcilla in Spain.

What is back bacon?

In the U.S., bacon is most often thought of as the streaky, fatty slices of smoked pork belly. Back bacon, also known as Canadian bacon, refers to the lean bacon from the pork loin, which comes from the back of the pig.

Notes from the Food & Wine Test Kitchen

Look for back bacon, bangers, and black pudding in well-stocked grocery stores or order online from Jolly Posh Foods.

Make ahead

The bacon, tomatoes, sausage, and mushrooms can all be made up to one day ahead. Warm them gently in the oven while making the eggs, black pudding, and toast. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days.
