A landlord couple have been fined £10,000 in Haringey after failing to license their property.
What was originally a family home was occupying seven different households, accommodating nine tenants across three storeys.
Cllr Sarah Williams, deputy leader of the council and cabinet member housing and planning, said: “This case underlines the crucial need for landlords to license their HMOs.
“Licensing is essential to ensure that properties comply with the necessary standards and to protect tenants.
“The safety and well-being of our residents is a top priority, and we are committed to taking all necessary measures to protect them.”
The council remains committed to enforcing HMO regulations and ensuring that all rental properties in Haringey meet required standards.
Properties occupied by five or more unrelated people who use it as their main home must have a mandatory Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMO) license.
As well as being unlicensed the couple also received enforcement notices for non-compliance under the Housing Act 2004.
Following council action, the property is now licensed, fully compliant with legal standards, while the fine has been paid.
