Kool & the Gang band member Michael Sumler has died after a tragic accident.

Fox 5 Atlanta reports that Michael died in a car crash on Sunday evening (May 25) in Mableton, Ga.

Michael, known as “Chicago Mike,” died at the scene of the accident. The report says that he was driving his own car, which collided with another car.

“We’re deeply saddened to hear about the passing of our longtime wardrobe valet, Mike Sumler. Mike worked alongside Kool & the Gang from 2004-2015, making sure the guys looked their best on stage every night,” the band said in a statement to People.

“He also enthused the crowd with his energy and dance moves. Most recently, Mike helped Kool with LeKool champagne events. Everyone here at Kool & the Gang has fond memories of Mike and will miss him. May he rest in peace,” the statement concluded.
