‘House of the Dragon’ Renewed for Third Season by HBO
“We could not be more thrilled to continue the story of House Targaryen,” said HBO exec Francesca Orsi
A third season of House of the Dragon is coming! Just a few days before HBO debuts the Game of Thrones prequel’s second season on June 16, HBO announced that the series will be extending for at least another season.
“George, Ryan, and the rest of our incredible executive producers, cast, and crew, have reached new heights with the phenomenal second season of House of the Dragon,” said HBO exec Francesca Orsi. “We are in awe of the dragon-sized effort the entire team has put into the creation of a spectacular season two, with a scope and scale that is only rivaled by its heart.”
“We could not be more thrilled to continue the story of House Targaryen and watch this team burn bright again for season three,” she added.
House of the Dragon has carried on the legacy of Game of Thrones with its high viewership, averaging 29 million viewers an episode. It was renewed for a second season just a week after the series premiered last year. The show is based 200 years before GOT and on George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood.
A Rolling Stone review described how the show’s second season “repeats same thrills” as its first season. “HotD remains a show that mistakes confusion for complexity, hurling waves of thinly-defined, often interchangeable characters at the audience, and hoping no one will mind because here be dragons — along with some fiery performances by [its actors],” read a review by Alan Sepinwall.
Season two stars actors such as Matt Smith, Emma D’Arcy, Olivia Cooke, Rhys Ifans, Steve Toussaint, Eve Best, Fabien Frankel, and Matthew Needham.
