Jennifer Lopez Teams With AI in Netflix Sci-Fi Movie

Jennifer Lopez confronts her complicated feelings about artificial intelligence when disaster strikes in the teaser trailer for Netflix‘s sci-fi movie Atlas.

Launching on the streaming service May 24, fimmkaer Brad Peyton‘s feature also stars Simu Liu, Sterling K. Brown, Gregory James Cohan, Abraham Popoola, Lana Parrilla and Mark Strong. Atlas centers on Atlas Shepherd (Lopez), a data analyst who must set aside her mistrust of AI when she faces problems during a voyage to apprehend a renegade robot with which she has shared history.

“Fire thrusters now!” Lopez shouts in the dramatic footage that shows her vessel going down. “Mission control, this is Atlas Shepherd. Do you hear me?”

Peyton (Rampage) directs from a script by Leo Sardarian and Aron Eli Coleite. Producers include Peyton, Lopez, Jeff Fierson, Joby Harold, Tory Tunnell, Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas, Benny Medina, Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter.

Lopez starred in Netflix’s 2023 film The Mother, and her other recent acting credits include Shotgun Wedding and Marry Me. She also starred in the Prime Video project This Is Me…Now: A Love Story, released last month to coincide with her ninth studio album, This Is Me… Now.

Brown was a presenter at Sunday’s Oscars ceremony, where he was nominated for his role in Cord Jefferson’s American Fiction. Known for his work on This Is Us, the Emmy-winning actor also stars in the upcoming Hulu series Washington Black, based on the Esi Edugyan novel.

Liu starred in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and had a role in Barbie. He, too, appeared at this year’s Academy Awards ceremony, where he took part in the viral “I’m Just Ken” performance led by Ryan Gosling.
