Before being announced as Queer Eye‘s newest Fab Five member, celebrity interior designer Jeremiah Brent released his first book, The Space That Keeps You: When Home Becomes a Love Story.
The 256-page interior design book is now the No. 1 title in Amazon’s New Releases in Art History chart, and the second book in Amazon’s Best Sellers and Most Wished For charts. Published by Harvest, the inspiring tome explores “the emotional meaning of home [and] illuminates what makes peoples’ spaces so personally significant.”
The 39-year-old Say I Do co-host is known for his California modern aesthetic of natural color palettes, luxurious textures, sculptural details and bringing the outdoors inside — think bold marble, organic cotton and olive tree branches displayed in chic handmade vases. He’s worked with Jessica Alba, Billy Joel, Ryan Murphy and Rachel Zoe, and has designed homes and spaces in Beverly Hills, Brentwood, Hollywood Hills, New York, Montauk and beyond.
The Space That Keeps You showcases his signature style alongside personal stories and inspiring decor through more than 300 inspiring photographs. Readers get a peek inside stunning homes around the world and the emotional stories held within their walls, including Oprah Winfrey and her Montecito manse, the Mexico abode of artist couple James and Alexandra Brown and the historic Venetian palazzo of Gilberto and Bianca Arrivebene. Brent and his husband, fellow interior designer Nate Berkus — who share children Oskar and Poppy — also share their memories and how they define the concept of home.
“As we worked on our renovation for the Fifth Avenue apartment for the second time, Nate and I kept saying to each other, ‘Wait a minute. Are we going to like this in 20 years?’ We had never had those conversations around anything we’d designed before because we had never lived anywhere more than two years … That house on Fifth Avenue has witnessed so much pain and joy. It witnessed the death of Nate’s father, which is probably the most complicated and saddest event that has happened while we were there. And, in Nate’s words, it has held ‘a vibration of unspeakable joy that I never anticipated,’” writes Brent.
Brent fills the Queer Eye role left vacant by fellow author and interior designer Bobby Berk, and he joins original hosts Karamo Brown, Tan France, Jonathan Van Ness and Antoni Porowski on season nine of the Netflix series. Production begins this spring and the new season will take place in Las Vegas.
Brent founded his namesake design studio, JBD, in 2012, and is the founder of lifestyle boutique Atrio in Culver City. He previously collaborated with Grove Co. on a line of elevated cleaning essentials and candles, he currently designs chic furniture and decor collections for Petsmart and Living Spaces under his Nate + Jeremiah line with husband Berkus.
