John Stamos is opening up about what helped him cope following his friend and Full House co-star Bob Saget’s death.
On a recent episode of the Full House Rewind podcast with Dave Coulier, the actor, who played Jesse on the beloved sitcom, recalled his initial days mourning Saget, who died in January 2022.
“Do you remember when his book came out?” Stamos asked the podcast host and his former co-star. “It was very dirty and weird. And so and for whatever reason, the night [Saget] died, I put on his audio tape and it gave me such comfort. I don’t know why. I listened to it every night when I went to sleep.”
The Grandfathered actor noted that as he continued to listen to Saget’s stories in Dirty Daddy: The Chronicles of a Family Man Turned Filthy Comedian, one anecdote caught his attention.
“One morning I woke up and I was like, ‘Did he say, in his book, did he say he hit his head and that’s how he died?’” Stamos remembered pondering at the time. “And I’m like, ‘Nah, that couldn’t be.’ And I went back to it and he talks, as a joke, about, ‘I would hit my head and call TMZ and [say] I’m dying.’”
“Wow,” Coulier responded, before adding that Saget left “a void” in all their lives.
Saget, who played the beloved Danny Tanner on Full House, died on Jan. 9, 2022, at the age of 65 due to head trauma. “They have concluded that he accidentally hit the back of his head on something, thought nothing of it and went to sleep,” his family previously told The Hollywood Reporter regarding the investigation into the actor’s death.
Stamos has also previously opened up about the duo’s final time together in person before Saget died. “The last time we were all together, we went on a double date to Nobu, maybe a month before he passed away,” he recalled to The New York Times in 2022. “He didn’t look like a guy who was going to die, but he was very calm, which was odd for Bob. He was at peace somehow. And he listened and he was thoughtful and didn’t interrupt; he cared about what we were saying.”
“I hate to say it, but it was the Bob that I always wanted to see,” the You actor added. “And it was the last time I saw him.”
