Jon Stewart Mocks Fox News Coverage of Democratic National Convention

Jon Stewart ripped apart Fox News’ coverage of the Democratic National Convention on Thursday night, mocking the outlet’s incongruous treatment of the convention’s jubilant energy.

“How did Fox News experience this convention at the beginning?” Stewart asked his audience at The Daily Show, which aired live from Chicago immediately following the DNC’s conclusion. “I’ve got to be honest, I’m not sure they cared for it.”

The show then played a montage of Fox News pundits claiming “there’s not much joy in this convention hall,” saying “the vibes are off.” In one clip, Jesse Watters said, “this is probably the most boring scene I’ve ever seen in my entire life.”

“Oh, so boring,” Stewart responded. “I forgot what a daredevil like you — I forgot your life is a never ending joyride of talking to Brit Hume in between catheter ads.”

The DNC concluded to a raucous crowd on Thursday night, capping four nights of joyful celebration directed toward the Harris-Walz ticket. Joy has been a theme throughout the week, with those such as Michelle Obama and Oprah Winfrey thanking the Democratic nominee for her campaign’s upbeat energy.

Stewart went on to refer to Watters as “Jesse Knievel,” and went on to play more clips from Fox News that showed the network’s leaders changing their tune. In one, a commentator said, “people are having a great time down here” just after Stevie Wonder’s performance.

Not everything was turned around, though. “They had a problem on this night as well,” Stewart said, and played clips of more Fox leaders saying “all the joy, all the vibes, all the emotion, it’s nothing but empty calories. They burn fast and make you fat.”

In another clip, a commentator said, “You’re not going to eat good vibes, right?”

Stewart looked at the crowd in satirical exasperation then, and said: “Which is it? Did the vibes fatten you up, or are they emotional Ozempic?”

He continued, “I guess you’re right. You can’t feed your family on vibes. You can only feed your family on immigration and fearmongering.”

At the end of the segment, Stewart returned to Watters, who apparently maintained his position that the vibes of the DNC were off through the end of the event, saying at one point that “last night wasn’t as jubilant as the media tells you to see… the lines to get into the stadium were long and silent. The only joy in the building was Joy Reid.”

As he spoke, though, Fox News played scenes from the convention where viewers could see the event was busy, loud and full of smiling fans.

Watters, Stewart said, “bravely continued the pretense that the convention was going badly even when the footage right next to his fucking head.”
