Kate Beckinsale on Health Struggles That Led to 6-Week Hospital Stay

Kate Beckinsale didn’t hold back when someone on social media commented about what her body has looked like recently.

The actress posted a video on Instagram putting on a hair net in a minimal pink ensemble and captioned it: “Let’s have a toast for the douche bags. Let’s have a toast for the assholes. Let’s have a toast for the scumbags.”

In the video, she explained that she was putting on a hair net because some of her followers had been vocalizing their unhappiness with her since she wasn’t doing “age-appropriate things.” One Instagram user commented on the clip, telling her to go do some squats because “I think ur ass ran away.”

Beckinsale took a moment to respond to the comment, writing that she actually watched her stepfather die “quite shockingly,” and her mother has stage 4 cancer.

“I lost a lot of weight from stress and grief, quite quickly and then I was in hospital for six weeks because the grief had burned a hole in my oesophagus which made me vomit copious amounts of blood,” she wrote. “I found eating very hard and I just worked very very hard on a movie that was actually quite triggering because it also involved the theme of the death of my father.”

She concluded, “So l’m not really concerned about what you think about my ass. Maybe you should worry about your own fucking ass. I suggest shoving something up it-like a large pineapple or a brick.”

Beckinsale had previously opened up about her mother’s cancer and her stepfather’s death, but her Instagram post on Monday was the first time she revealed details about the health struggles that landed her in the hospital.

News of her hospitalization first came to light in March, when she posted a carousel on Instagram celebrating her mother on U.K.’s Mother’s Day and included two of herself in a hospital bed with a big black bow on her head.
