Kate Hudson Charts Her First Top 10 Album In America

Throughout her career, Kate Hudson has found great success in a number of industries. She’s an Oscar-nominated actress, a bestselling author, and the founder of a clothing line that’s valued in the billions of dollars. Most people would see that as a complete career, but Hudson clearly had more she wanted to do and say, and now she’s scored her first wins in the music world.

Hudson debuts on several Billboard charts this week with her first album. The singer (and songwriter) released her full-length Glorious earlier in May to fairly positive reviews. While the set hasn’t become a breakout smash success, it has provided the multi-talented Hudson with her first wins on a few tallies.

Glorious sold 6,665 copies in its first full frame of availability, according to Luminate. That’s enough for the title to launch inside the top 10 on the Top Album Sales chart, Billboard’s ranking of the bestselling full-lengths in the U.S. Hudson earns her first placement within that competitive region as her project starts at No. 10.

While No. 10 is a lofty placement for a new album, Glorious does launch behind quite a few other arrivals. Hudson scores the eighth-highest-ranking debut on the tally, as this frame proved to be particularly busy when it comes to just-released titles that Americans felt compelled to buy.

Glorious is also new to Billboard’s Vinyl Albums chart, which focuses only on the top-selling titles on the format. Hudson’s sweet set opens at No. 19 on that ranking. On that list, she earns the tenth-loftiest debut.

So far, three songs have been pushed from Glorious as singles. None of them have made a noticeable commercial impact in the U.S., though that could possibly change in the coming weeks.

Glorious is notably absent from the Billboard 200 this frame. The title didn’t move enough units to land on the main albums chart in America, which must be a bit disappointing for the star. This week, Megan Moroney’s Lucky settles at No. 200–in last place–on the tally with 7,980 equivalent units shifted. That means that Hudson’s effort moved somewhere below that number, though exactly how many units it accrued in its first frame isn’t clear.
