Kerrington Cross of Cincinnati Bearcats a Howser Trophy semifinalist

Cincinnati Bearcats redshirt senior infielder Kerrington Cross has been named a semifinalist for the Dick Howser Trophy, the National College Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) announced May 15.
Cross is one of 67 players named a semifinalist and one of seven Big 12 Conference players on the list.
Finalists for the Dick Howser Trophy will be announced on June 7 and the winner will be announced at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha, the home of the College World Series, on June 13. The winner will also be unveiled in a special presentation on MLB Network and be introduced at a news conference shortly after.
What Kerrington Cross has done for Cincinnati Bearcats
Cross has put together an incredible season in 2025. Entering the final weekend of the regular season, he is hitting .406 with 11 home runs, 46 RBIs, 57 runs scored, 42 walks and 13 stolen bases. He leads the Big 12 in batting average, on-base percentage (.532), on-base plus-slugging (OPS, 1.204) and ranks fourth in slugging percentage (.672). Cross ranks among the national leaders in Division I in on-base percentage (8th) and batting average (18th). Earlier this month in a game at Kansas, Cross set a single-game school record for RBI (10) and tied the single-game school records for home runs (three) and total bases (14).
Born in Hawaii but playing prep ball in Brownsburg, Indiana, Cross is leaving his mark at Cincinnati. He will finish his career ranking among the all-time leaders in several offensive categories. He ranks third all-time in career runs scored (213), walks (146), and total bases (431), fourth in home runs (40), fifth in hits (251) and RBI (166), and is tied for eighth in games played (211).
Who was Dick Howser?
The Dick Howser Trophy, presented by The Game Headwear, is given in memory of the former Florida State University All-America shortstop and major league player and manager who died of brain cancer in 1987. The trophy is regarded as baseball’s most prestigious award. Criteria for consideration of the trophy include performance on the field, leadership, moral character and courage – all qualities that were exemplified by Dick Howser’s life.

Paul Skenes of the Pittsburgh Pirates won the award in 2023 while at LSU. Locally, Madeira High School’s Andrew Benintendi won while at Arkansas in 2015. He is currently with the White Sox.
