Matthew Perry’s Twitter Account Hacked By ‘Fraudulent Site’

The Matthew Perry Foundation confirmed that fans should check the link before they donate money

Matthew Perry‘s account on X, formerly known as Twitter, was hacked, according to the Matthew Perry Foundation. In a pinned tweet, which has since been removed, the foundation urged people to donate. However, the link led to a duplicate site.

“We have received reports that Matthew’s official X page has been hacked and is directing users to a fraudulent site soliciting donations via cryptocurrency,” the Matthew Perry Foundation wrote on Instagram. “Please do not donate to this site or share the fraudulent posts on social media. MatthewPerryFoundation.org is the only website associated with the Foundation, and we are only accepting donations through this site.”

In the caption, the foundation added, “Please report imposter accounts, and do not submit donations through any channel other than MatthewPerryFoundation.org.”

The Matthew Perry Foundation was established to honor the late Friends star’s legacy and to help “others struggling with the disease of addiction.” It is “the realization of Matthew’s enduring commitment to helping others struggling with the disease of addiction” and the foundation is “guided by his words and experiences and inspired by his passion for making a difference in as many lives as possible.”

Perry died on Oct. 28, 2023, after drowning at his Los Angeles home. An autopsy report, released several months later, revealed “high levels of ketamine” in Perry’s blood at the time, which likely caused the actor to lapse “into unconsciousness” and drown. Coronary artery disease and buprenorphine effects were also cited as contributing conditions.

Perry was open about his addiction to drugs and alcohol, serving several stints in rehab, including when he was a cast member on Friends. He was especially candid about his struggles in his memoir, Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing, which opened with the line: “Hi, my name is Matthew, although you may know me by another name. My friends call me Matty. And I should be dead.”
