Lego’s Super Mario World Build Is The 16-Bit Perfection We Need

You know what Lego’s are made of, right? Blocks! And you know what the original Mario was made of! Also blocks! So, if we just put those two ideas together…crossfade the undersplines…carry the seven… No, sorry, I’ve got nothing.

Via the magic of a Singapore certified Lego store accidentally uploading the unannounced product too early, and the speedy hands and eyes of Lego blogger Jay’s Brick Blog, we know about 71438 Super Mario World Mario & Yoshi before Simon Lego wanted the news to be out.

We also know that it will release (at least somewhere in the world) on October 1, 2024, and—in Singapore at least—will cost 209.99 SGD ($156).

It just looks so brilliant, right! And so obvious! What were they doing, making all those smooth, round Marios, when the right-angled nature of Lego was already the perfect shape? Mario riding Yoshi is an all-time classic (I already made a version in naughty knock-off nanoblocks and love the build), and the approach here is so smart, with the almost-2D 16-bit design.

It’ll be 1,215 pieces, which is a pleasingly lengthy time click bricks together, although means it’ll likely be very expensive too. Jay’s Brick Blog spots that it also appears to feature a hand-crank, that looks likely to cause Yoshi’s tongue to poke out. Perfect! (I also suspect that Yoshi’s arm will pump up and down, given it moves in the various images. And his legs might move back and forth? I might actually die.)

Clearly someone in Singapore realized they did a bad thing, as the page is now removed, with the message, “THIS PRODUCT IS NOT EXISTS.” Fortunately however, it soon will.
