33M, gay, friends told me my taste and furnishings sucked. Please help

I've spent a small fortune on the furniture in this space and I'm being told it looks rubbish by some of my friends. What can I do to bring it alive? I don't really want to replace anything given the cost involved.

Main concern is there's too much wood…and maybe I need to fill out it with non-wooden stuff? Any ideas are appreciated.

I appreciate I probably need some artwork/stuff on the walls but I feel like part of me is afraid to let my personality come through in this sense. I need to just let this happen but not sure where to start.

Blinds are being replaced with curtains now that I'm purchasing the property.
