Exciting news for fans of Lynn Whitfield and The Chi!

The Emmy award-winning actress was just announced this week to being promoted to series regular on the Showtime drama for the upcoming seventh season, according to Deadline.

The series was renewed earlier this summer just days before part two of season six premiered.

Lynn joined the cast in season six in a heavily recurring role as Alicia, “an intimidating, fearless and powerful matriarch who is laser-focused on avenging her brother’s murder.”

Season six, according to Deadline, set a new record for the series, notching it’s most-streamed season yet!

The Chi was created by Lena Waithe, and is a “timely coming-of-age story centering on a group of residents on the South Side of Chicago who become linked by coincidence but bonded by the need for connection and redemption.”
