Miley Cyrus is getting real about one of her earliest, toughest heartbreaks.
The Used To Be Young singer had a pretty awful breakup with hubby Liam Hemsworth back in 2020, but that wasn’t her first experience with a rough split. While chatting about her music on the Every Single Album podcast on Thursday, the 32-year-old took a look way back… at her relationship with Nick Jonas.
The couple were together during their Disney Channel days, and stayed together from 2006 to 2007. They eventually rekindled their romance some time in 2009, but that didn’t last long… and now the Hannah Montana star is revealing what really went down.
While talking about her song Take Me Along from her 2010 Can’t Be Tamed album, she finally revealed it was about the Jonas Brothers singer! She said on the podcast:
“That was a whole thing. Niley strays, but this song was about Nick Jonas and he broke up with me. I was distraught.”
The Flowers songstress said she remembered her big sister Brandi Cyrus was playing guitar for her on tour at the time, so she had support from her sibling:
“I was in my bed sobbing. And she came in, just like a regular big sister — but it wasn’t so regular because she was like ‘Um, 25,000 people are waiting for you to pull your s**t together!’”
Aw! Poor Miley.

That’s exactly how the song came to be, though. She said at the time, she told her big sis she had a “song idea”:
“I felt like I knew [Nick’s] career was gonna propel. He was gonna become the Jonas Brothers, because they were opening for me. And they wanted to go — and that was part of the reason why we were breaking up. He was gonna go do his own tour, he was separating himself from the Disney thing, and they were gonna go do that.”
Probably the most iconic line in the song came straight from Miley’s heartbreak about Nick “leaving” her:
“I wanted him to take me with him on the tour. I was like, ‘why can’t we do it together?’ So, I had this idea of ‘I don’t understand why you’re leaving me’. I was telling my sister, and my sister grabbed the guitar and started playing the song. So we wrote it.”

Aww! As you can imagine, she was only around 17 then, so this breakup hit her hard. So much so, that later in the podcast she talked about how she wrote her book Miles To Go — and the strays she tried to throw at Nick in it! The Wrecking Ball singer said:
“I probably was like … ‘Nick Jonas dumped me, he’s a d**k.’ But they were like, ‘We can say he’s not a very nice boy.’ But I was probably like, ‘He’s an a**hole’.”
Ha!
No need to worry, though, Niley fans. The Last Song star is OVER IT! She clarified she holds no grudges against her ex:
“I like Nick. I’m into him. He’s like, married with children. We’re all moving on. Everything is good in the world. Niley for life!”

These days, Nick is happily married to his wife Priyanka Chopra, and is busy being a dad to their baby girl Malti Marie. As for Miley, she’s been in a relationship with rocker Maxx Morando since 2021. So yeah, “all moving on.”
