Mockumentary Stars Bobby Moynihan, Chris Parnell
The trailer for the mockumentary film Micro Budget features an array of notable comedy stars and launches ahead of the project’s festival debut later this month.
The Hollywood Reporter’s exclusive first look at the promo teases the comedy feature from director and co-writer Morgan Evans. Brandon Micheal Hall, Bobby Moynihan and Chris Parnell star in Micro Budget, which centers on clueless father-to-be Terry (Hall), who moves with his pregnant wife to Los Angeles to shoot a low-budget disaster movie that he aims to sell to a streaming service for a big profit.
Rounding out the cast are Maria Bamford, Mike Mitchell, Neil Casey, Patrick Noth, Emilea Wilson, Nichole Sakura, Jordan Rock, Jon Gabrus and Hal Linden.
“I read about this Paranormal Activity guy,” Hall’s character explains in the trailer. “He made that movie for like nothing, and then he sold it for a bajillion dollars. So I said, ‘Hey, raise some money. Make a film. Sell it for a fuck-ton.’”
As might be expected, hurdles abound for the project’s motley team. This includes Moynihan exclaiming, “Someone needs to reimburse me for my totaled bicycle!”
Micro Budget is currently seeking distribution and will premiere at the Calgary International Film Festival on Sept. 21, followed by a showing there on Sept. 28. The movie will also screen at the Tacoma Film Festival on Oct. 12 and at the Buffalo International Film Festival on Oct. 13.
Evans (Teen Titans Go!) helmed the film from a script he co-wrote with Noth. Evans, Noth, Wilson, Rob Hatch-Miller and Puloma Basu serve as producers.
