‘Monopoly’ Gets Netflix Reality Show

The “Monopoly” competition series has landed at Netflix after a competitive bidding process, sources tell Variety.

The board game-inspired reality show was announced in March after it hit the marketplace. It’s been described as a “large-scale social-experiment contest” that will force contestants to form alliances and betray their competitors. They must walk the line between “capitalism and chaos” in a “cutthroat” race to own it all.

Netflix was not available for comment.

From Hasbro Entertainment, “Monopoly” is the latest move by Netflix to drum up unscripted content based on IP, following “Squid Game: The Challenge” and “The Golden Ticket,” a competition show in the works based on the world of Willy Wonka.

The “Monopoly” series is separate from the feature film from Lionsgate and Margot Robbie’s LuckyChap, the company that powered Hasbro’s Barbie doll into a $1.4 billion box office juggernaut.

Deadline broke the news.
