Moscow Mule Nails Is the Perfect Metallic Manicure for the Holidays
If you’ve ever ordered a Moscow Mule, then you know exactly what the bartender’s going to deliver: a refreshing vodka-ginger drink in an iconic copper mug. The Moscow Mule nail trend doesn’t take its inspiration from the beverage inside, but rather the ultra-shiny vessel it’s contained in. This twist on metallic nails is a fun pick for the season, and it’s one of those attention-grabbing hues that still manages to pair with everything you wear.
What Are Moscow Mule Nails?
Moscow Mule nails take inspiration from the copper mug that the Moscow Mule cocktail is served in. The manicure typically involves a bronze or copper shade with a shimmery, shiny, or metallic finish.
“It’s glamorous and warm, which feels perfect for this time of year with the winter season coming up. The metallic finish adds an edgy touch without being too bold,” says celebrity manicurist Mazz Hanna, CEO of Nailing Hollywood. “They have a perfect blend of warmth and shimmer that perfectly complements the color palette of fall and the glamour of the upcoming holidays.”
Moscow Mule nails are a transitional shade that bridges fall and holiday trends effortlessly. It’s also a borderline neutral hue, making it easy to pair with whatever outfit you pluck from your wardrobe.
How to Get Moscow Mule Nails
Moscow Mule nails are easy to recreate, and you can either DIY it yourself or head to the salon.
- Professional Mani: At the salon, Hanna says to “ask for bronze or copper chrome powder if you want a metallic finish or ask for a bronze or copper regular or gel polish with a shimmer finish if you prefer a more sparkly look.” Alternatively, ask for a magnetic cat-eye effect, which creates more depth versus a mirror-like finish.
- Press-on Nails: It can be tricky to get that super shiny, streamlined look that Moscow Mule nails are known for. Press-on nails take care of the hard work and look great. If you’re hesitant to try them, know that they’ve come a really long way in recent years and last for a week or two without issue.
- At-Home Gel: For a DIY mani, opt for a gel curing system at home. Choose a shiny or shimmery copper/bronze hue and make sure to seal it with a glossy top coat. The benefit of a gel polish is that it’ll last you two or more weeks. You can add a chrome top coat yourself, as well. Buff it onto your copper-painted nails, then seal with a gel top coat.
- Regular Nail Polish: If you just want a quick polish, choose a metallic copper or bronze hue. You can add a shimmery top coat if you want more of a glistening finish, or just seal it with a glossy top coat. Anytime you do your nails yourself, it’s a good idea to trim, file, and buff your nails so they’re all the same shape.
