Motivated Travis Kelce Explains Why Super Bowl LVIII Means More Than Previous Big Games
Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs are aiming for their third Super Bowl victory in the past five years Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers. However, the star tight end says he’s still as motivated as ever to win, even claiming that he wants this win more than either of the other victories.
Kelce explained on Monday night that the idea of winning back to back Super Bowls has fueled his motivation this season.
“I want this one more than I’ve ever wanted a Super Bowl in my life,” Kelce said Monday at Super Bowl LVIII opening night in Allegiant Stadium. “Because that tier of teams that have done it twice have gone down in history as some of the greats.”

The Chiefs had a chance to win consecutive titles a few years ago, but lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in a 31-9 rout to cap the 2020 season. Since then, Kelce said he has been focused on helping the Chiefs become one of the few teams to win the Super Bowl in back to back seasons.

There have been eight different instances of a team being repeat champions since the first Super Bowl in January 1967, but it hasn’t happened since the New England Patriots did it in the 2003 and ’04 seasons.
While the 49ers hope to win their franchise’s first title since the 1994 season, Kansas City wants to become one of the greatest teams of all time. According to Kelce, that is enough for him to remain hungry to win.
