My Go-To Japanese Knife Is on Sale at Amazon

As a developer of recipes and a tester of kitchen tools, my home is fit to bursting with cooking equipment. You name it, I probably own it. Cutting boards? I have four. Cookie sheets? The warming drawer under my oven currently houses eight. Dutch ovens? No less than three.

With so many gadgets vying for my attention, it’s no small feat when one breaks through the clutter and earns its place in my daily cooking routine. Shun, the brand behind some of my most-used and most-loved Japanese knives, never fails to do exactly this. I was lucky enough to receive two of Shun’s most popular paring knives to test last year: the Kanso and the Classic. I’ve already waxed poetic about the former, and now, I’m hoping you’ll bear with me while I do the same for the latter. It’s exceedingly beautiful, impressively versatile, and marked down by 44% through tomorrow.

Classic 3.5-Inch Paring Knife

Amazon

Just like a chef’s knife, a paring knife should be a staple in every home. The blade is short but sharp, making quick work of hulling strawberries, peeling garlic, quartering mushrooms, and so much more. As someone who eats a lot of fresh produce, its small size has an unusually large presence in my kitchen.

While you could certainly use cheaper models, I would rather spend more money at the outset so I can spend less over time. After all, the long life of a Shun Classic series paring knife is practically guaranteed given its full-tang construction. In plain English, this means that the blade runs through the entire length of the wooden handle for superior balance and durability. As long as I wash it by hand and sharpen it regularly, there’s no reason why this paring knife won’t last for decades in my kitchen.

Thousands of Amazon shoppers are likewise impressed by Shun. One reviewer promised it’s “worth the cost,” swearing that you will “notice the difference when using a quality knife” like this one. Another dubbed the Classic model the “best” knife they have ever had the privilege of using and a third added that it feels “almost effortless to work with” because of its impeccable balance.

If you’re looking to build a collection of high-performance kitchen tools, grab Shun’s Classic paring knife while it’s $55 off. It’s a superior product at an excellent price point — but only for a few more hours. Hurry, the sale ends on April 30.
