New Movies of 2025
The movies of 2025 are filled with dinosaurs, ghosts, vampires and more Wicked.
Heading to theaters is Brad Pitt as a Formula One racer, Jesse Buckley as the Bride of Frankenstein and Timothée Chalamet as a 1950s ping-pong champ. Paddington, Bridget Jones and Happy Gilmore are going to be back in front of audiences, while animations How to Train Your Dragon, Lilo & Stitch and Snow White are getting the live-action treatment.
Here are the most anticipated movies (so far) due out next year.
Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl (Jan. 3)
The Aardman Animation will see Wallace and Gromit go up against Wallace’s new invention, a “smart” gnome that develops a mind of its own.
Back in Action (Jan. 17)
Cameron Diaz’s appropriately named return to movies sees her star alongside Jamie Foxx as a former CIA spy. Andrew Scott, Jamie Demetriou, Kyle Chandler and Glenn Close also star in the feature from Horrible Bosses director Seth Gordon.
One of Them Days (Jan. 17)
The buddy comedy from producer Issa Rae stars Keke Palmer and SZA as roommates who, after a boyfriend steals that month’s rent, have the day to find the money, make an important interview and preserve their friendship.
Presence (Jan. 17)
Steven Soderbergh’s ghost story, told from the perspective of the ghost, was written by Jurassic Park scribe David Koepp and stars Lucy Liu and Chris Sullivan.
Wolf Man (Jan. 17)
Insidious director Leigh Whannell takes on the classic monster movie genre. Christopher Abbott and Julia Garner star in this Blumhouse film about a family that moves to an old farmhouse only to be attacked by a werewolf.
You’re Cordially Invited (Jan. 30)
Will Ferrell and Reese Witherspoon star as a father-of-the-bride and sister-of-another-bride warring over a wedding venue that was accidentally double booked. The Amazon MGM movies will be released on streaming on Prime Video.
Companion (Jan. 31)
The latest horror film from the producing team behind 2022 standout Barbarian is described as a sci-fi horror film and stars Jack Quaid and Sophie Thatcher.
Love Hurts (Feb. 7)
The action film from the John Wick and Fall Guy production team stars Ke Huy Quan as a former hitman turned real estate agent who is being hunted by his brother after letting go of a one-time partner (Ariana DeBose) who stole money from the operation.
Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy (Feb. 13)
The latest installment in the Bridget Jones films will stream on Peacock and has the heroine, now-widowed, juggling parenting and dating. Chiwetel Ejiofor and Leo Woodall join the returning cast of Hugh Grant and Emma Thompson.
Captain America: Brave New World (Feb. 14)
Anthony Mackie’s first Marvel movie turn as Captain America sees Harrison Ford joining the MCU as Thaddeus Ross/Red Hulk and Danny Ramirez taking over as The Falcon. Julius Onah directs.
Paddington in Peru (Feb. 14)
The delightful Paddington franchise continues with this film, which sees the bear and his duffle coat return to his native Peru in search of his Aunt Lucy. Olivia Colman and Emily Mortimer join a cast with returning stars Hugh Bonneville and Ben Whishaw.
The Monkey (Feb. 21)
Osgood Perkins’ follow-up to horror breakout Longlegs is a haunting movie centered around a vintage toy monkey. James Wan produces, and Theo James, Tatiana Maslany and Elijah Wood star.
Sinners (March 7)
Michael B. Jordan and Ryan Coogler reteam for this vampire movie, where Jordan plays twins who return to their hometown and are confronted with an unexpected evil. Hailee Steinfeld, Jack O’Connell, Wunmi Mosaku, Jayme Lawson, Omar Benson Miller and Delroy Lindo also star.
The Electric State (March 14)
The Russo brothers’ latest feature for Netflix is based on the graphic novel of the same name and follows a young woman (Millie Bobby Brown) who teams up with a robot that claims to know where her missing brother is. Chris Pratt, Ke Huy Quan and Stanley Tucci also star.
Snow White (March 21)
The live-action movie musical version of Disney’s classic animation stars Rachel Zegler as the titular heroine and Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen. Marc Webb directs from a screenplay by Greta Gerwig and Erin Cressida Wilson.
The Woman in the Yard (March 28)
Awards season regular Danielle Deadwyler stars in the Blumhouse feature about a family who gets a chilling warning from a mysterious woman dressed in black who appears on their front lawn. Jaume Collet-Serra directs the psychological horror.
A Minecraft Movie (April 4)
The half-animated adventure comedy based on the ultra-popular video game stars Jack Black, Jason Mamoa and Danielle Brooks. It takes place inside the game where crafters can build whatever they can imagine.
Mickey 17 (April 18)
The highly anticipated Parasite follow-up from director Bong Joon-ho follows a man (Robert Pattinson) employed as an “expendable,” or a worker who dies and is regenerated. When one of his iterations accidentally survives, he has to confront the new version of himself. Naomi Ackie, Steven Yeun, Toni Collette and Mark Ruffalo also star.
The Accountant 2 (April 25)
This is a follow-up to the 2016 film where Ben Affleck plays a math savant and resident CPA to dangerous criminal organizations. Jon Bernthal and J.K. Simmons are returning.
Thunderbolts (May 2)
The final film for Phase Five of the Marvel Cinematic Universe centers on MCU villains who team up for a mission backed by the U.S. government. Florence Pugh returns as Yelena Belova, along with Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes and David Harbour as Red Guardian. Wyatt Russell joins as John Walker, Olga Kurylenko as Taskmaster and Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost.
Lilo & Stitch (May 23)
After Snow White, Lilo & Stitch will be the second Disney live-action remake in 2025. Like the 2002 animation, it follows a space alien who crash lands on Earth and is taken in by a rambunctious but lonely girl in Hawaii. Newcomer Maia Kealoha plays Lilo, while the cast includes Billy Magnussen, Zach Galifianakis and Courtney B. Vance.
Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning (May 23)
The next Mission: Impossible is directed by franchise helmer Christopher McQuarrie and sees Tom Cruise back as Ethan Hunt. Returning stars include Hayley Atwell, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg and Vaness Kirby, with Hannah Waddingham and Katy O’Brian among the franchise newcomers.
Karate Kid: Legends (May 30)
After the success of the Netflix series Cobra Kai, the latest installment in the Karate Kid franchise sees Jackie Chan’s Mr. Han and Ralph Macchio’s Daniel LaRusso teaming up to help mentor a new protégé.
Ballerina (June 6)
The new spinoff from the John Wick film series, which is set between the events of John Wick: Chapter 3 and Chapter 4, sees Ana De Armas star as a ballerina who turns into an assassin. Len Wiseman directs the film, which also features Norman Reedus and franchise stars Ian McShane and Anjelica Huston.
Elio (June 13)
An alien obsessive who has a hard time connecting with his fellow Earthlings is mistakenly identified as Earth’s leader when an interplanetary organization is looking for representatives from galaxies. The Pixar movie stars Zoe Saldaña and Brad Garrett.
How to Train Your Dragon (June 13)
After a successful animated trilogy, the latest How to Train Your Dragon movie will be a live-action remake of the first film, which follows a young Viking, Hiccup, who befriends a dragon after being taught for years how to hunt them. Gerard Butler is reprising his role as Stoick the Vast, Hiccup’s father.
28 Years Later (June 20)
Danny Boyle is back in the director’s chair for the zombie horror thriller, written by Alex Garland. It sees Cillian Murphy return to the series that launched his career, with Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Ralph Fiennes also starring.
F1 (June 27)
Brad Pitt stars as a former driver who returns to Formula 1 track to mentor and team with a younger racer (Damson Idris). The film, directed by Top Gun: Maverick helmer Joseph Kosinski, was made in collaboration with 10 Formula 1 teams, with scenes shot during real F1 races.
M3GAN 2.0 (June 27)
The 2022 horror film about a homicidal lifesize doll earned a massive $95 million at the domestic box office. The sequel, written by M3GAN scribe Akela Cooper, will see the return of Allison Williams and Violet McGraw.
Jurassic World Rebirth (July 2)
The latest feature in the Jurassic World franchise takes place years after the events of Jurassic World Dominion. The planet has proven largely inhospitable to dinosaurs, with all prehistoric creatures congregating toward the equator. Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali and Jonathan Bailey star in the feature, from Godzilla director Gareth Edwards.
Superman (July 11)
James Gunn’s take on the Man of Steel stars David Corenswet, with Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. The logline for the film reads: “He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way in a world that views this as old-fashioned.”
The Fantastic Four: First Steps (July 25)
The latest reboot of the Fantastic Four comes from WandaVision director Matt Shakman and stars Pedro Pascal as Mister Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn as Human Torch and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as The Thing. The 1960s space-age-inspired movie will see the heroes take on Galactus (Ralph Ineson) and the Silver Surfer (Julia Garner).
I Know What You Did Last Summer Sequel (July 18)
Do Revenge director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson takes on the sequel to the ’90s horror classic. Freddie Prinze Jr. and Jennifer Love Hewitt are returning for the film, joining newcomers including Madelyn Cline, Chase Sui Wonders, Tyriq Withers and Jonah Hauer-King.
Untitled Trey Parker/Matt Stone Comedy (July 4)
The South Park duo are bringing their comedy talents to the big screen in a new untitled movie that, according to a previously reported description, “centers on a young Black man who is interning as a slave re-enactor at a living history museum and discovers that his white girlfriend’s ancestors once owned his.” Kendrick Lamar and Dave Free are also producing.
The Bad Guys 2 (Aug. 1)
The follow-up to the 2022 animated comedy sees the titular Bad Guys having a hard time convincing everyone else that they have turned over a new leaf. Then a new all-female squad, the Bad Girls, pulls them out of retirement.
The Naked Gun (Aug. 1)
Lonely Island member Akiva Schaffer is behind the new take on the classic ’80s goofball comedy that starred Leslie Nielsen as the bumbling detective with a heart of gold Frank Drebin. Liam Neeson will star as Frank Drebin Jr., leading a cast that includes Pamela Anderson and Paul Walter Hauser.
The Battle of Baktan Cross (Aug. 8)
The new movie from PT Anderson stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Regina Hall, Sean Penn and Alana Haim. Anderson wrote the script, with the logline for the film being kept under wraps.
Freakier Friday (Aug. 8)
Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis are back as the body-swapping mother-daughter duo, but, this time, Lohan’s Tess has a daughter and soon-to-be stepdaughter of her own. Mark Harmon and Chad Michael Murray are also returning, with Once Upon a Time in Hollywood breakout Julia Butters joining the cast.
Nobody 2 (Aug. 15)
Bob Odenkirk is returning as Hutch Mansell, a retired government assassin attempting to live an ordinary life. Connie Nielsen, RZA, Christopher Llyod and Michael Ironside are returning for the sequel that takes place after the events of the first film, where Mansell thwarted a home invasion.
Mercy (Aug. 15)
Chris Pratt stars as a detective who has to prove his innocence after being accused of a crime in the Timur Bekmambetov-directed movie. Rebecca Ferguson and Annabelle Wallis also star.
The Conjuring: Last Rites (Sept. 7)
Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson are back for the sixth film in the Conjuring franchise that is being billed as the final film for the main storyline about supernatural investigators Ed and Lorrain Warren. Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It director Michael Chaves is back for this outing.
Downton Abbey 3 (Sept. 12)
The Downton main players are back for the third film, with Paul Giamatti also reprising his role as Cora Grantham’s brother, Harold Levinson. Simon Curtis is directing the movie from a script by series creator Julian Fellowes.
The Bride! (Sept. 26)
Maggie Gyllenhaal’s take on the Bride of Frankenstein stars Jessie Buckley as the bride and Christian Bale playing Frankenstein’s monster. According to its logline, a lonesome Frankenstein enlists the help of Dr. Euphronios to create a companion for himself, and they revive a murdered woman.
Michael (Oct. 3)
Jaafar Jackson, the nephew of the late pop superstar, stars in this Michael Jackson biopic from director Antoine Fuqua. Nia Long, Laura Harrier, Miles Teller and Colman Domingo round out the cast. In April, producer Graham King revealed the project will include more than 30 songs.
The Black Phone 2 (Oct. 17)
Scott Derrickson’s 2021 horror film centered on a 13-year-old who is being held captive by a killer but is helped by the killer’s former victims, who speak to him through a disconnected phone. Mason Thames is back as Finney, while Ethan Hawke is returning as The Grabber.
Good Fortune (Oct. 17)
Aziz Ansari directs and stars opposite Seth Rogen and Keanu Reeves in this movie, about a struggling man who gets his life swapped with his wealthy friend by a mystical force.
Regretting You (Oct 24)
The latest Colleen Hoover adaption to hit theaters since the success of It Ends With Us. Allison Williams stars in the story that focuses on a young other and the increasingly strained relationship between her now teenage daughter daughter, played by Mckenna Grace.
Bugonia (Nov. 7)
The latest reteam from Yorgos Lanthimos and Emma Stone sees the Oscar-winning actress playing a high-powered CEO of a major company who is kidnapped by two conspiracy-obsessed young men. Jesse Plemmons, who worked with Lanthimos and Stone on 2024’s Kinds of Kindness, also stars in this English-language remake of the 2003 South Korean film Save the Green Planet!
Predator: Badlands (Nov. 7)
Dan Trachtenberg, who revamped the Predators franchise with the 20th Century and Hulu feature Prey, directs the new feature starring Elle Fanning. For Badlands, Trachtenberg reteamed with Prey scribe Patrick Aison, but, unlike Prey, Badlands will be set in the future.
Now You See Me 3 (Nov. 14)
Jesse Eisenberg, Mark Ruffalo, Woody Harrelson, Dave Franco, Isla Fisher and Lizzy Caplan are back for the third installment of the magician-centric heist films. Barbie star Ariana Greenblatt, The Holdovers breakout Dominic Sessa and Justice Smith are among the new additions.
The Running Man (Nov. 21)
Edgar Wright directs Glen Powell in the remake of the 1987 Arnold Schwarzenegger film, which was set in 2025. The story centers on a wrongly convicted cop who is forced to compete in a TV game show where people are chased by killers. Wright and his Scott Pilgrim collaborator Michael Bacall co-wrote the screenplay based on the Stephen King story.
Wicked: For Good (Nov. 21)
The second part of the Wicked movie musical will pick up where the first film left off, with Cynthia Erivo’s Wicked Witch and Ariana Grande’s Glinda separated by the evil Wizard (Jeff Goldblum).
Zootopia 2 (Nov. 26)
This is the sequel to the popular 2016 animated comedy that followed Judy Hopps (Ginnifer Goodwin), the first rabbit to join the Zootopia police force, and a petty criminal fox (Jason Bateman) who team up to solve the biggest mystery in the animal kingdom.
Avatar: Fire and Ash (Dec. 19)
The plot for the third installment of James Cameron’s Avatar film series is still unknown, but it will see the return of Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña). The second film, The Way of Water, grossed $2.32 billion at the global box office.
The Housemaid (Dec. 25)
Paul Feig directs Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried in the adaptation of the Freida McFadden novel about Millie (Sweeney), a struggling young woman who is happy to get a job as a housemaid to Nina (Seyfried), one-half of an upscale, wealthy couple that turns out to have secrets of their own.
Marty Supreme (Dec. 25)
The A24 movie stars Timothée Chalamet as a 1950s ping-pong ball champ. Uncut Gems director Josh Safdie is behind the movie, which also stars Gwyneth Paltrow, Tyler the Creator, Fran Drescher and Penn Jillette, among others.
After the Hunt (TBD)
The latest movie from Luca Guadagnino stars Julia Roberts as a college professor who is forced to confront her own dark past when a prominent student makes an accusation against one of her colleagues. Andrew Garfield, Ayo Edebiri and Chloë Sevigny are also among the cast.
Death of a Unicorn (TBD)
Jenna Ortega and Paul Rudd star in the supernatural comedy about a father and daughter who accidentally hit and kill a unicorn, eventually bringing it to the wilderness compound of a pharmaceutical CEO. While there, it’s discovered that the parts of the unicorn can cure diseases, but then a fellow unicorn shows up to enact revenge.
Frankenstein (TBD)
The maestro of monsters, Guillermo del Toro, takes on Mary Shelley’s classic monster story, with Oscar Isaac playing Dr. Victor Frankenstein and Jacob Elordi starring as the Monster. Mia Goth, Christoph Waltz and Felix Kammerer also star.
Friendship (TBD)
I Think You Should Leave star Tim Robinson and Paul Rudd lead this comedy about a suburban dad (Robinson) whose life takes a turn when he befriends his new neighbor (Rudd).
Happy Gilmore 2 (TBD)
Adam Sandler is back as the hockey player-turned-reluctant golf pro, along with Julie Bowen, Christopher McDonald and Ben Stiller. The comedy, directed by Kyle Newacheck (Murder Mystery), welcomes Bad Bunny and Travis Kelce to the cast.
The Old Guard 2 (TBD)
Charlize Theron leads the sequel to her 2020 action movie about a group of immortal mercenaries. KiKi Layne, Matthias Schoenaerts, Marwan Kenzari, Luca Marinelli, Veronica Ngo and Chiwetel Ejiofor also reprise their role from the original film, with Uma Thurman and Henry Golding joining the cast.
A Simple Favor 2 (TBD)
The sequel to A Simple Favor will see the return of Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick as Stephanie Smothers (Kendrick) and Emily Nelson (Lively). In the movie, they are heading to the island of Capri for Emily’s lavish wedding, where murder and betrayal ensue.
Untitled Noah Baumbach Movie (TBD)
The latest from Baumbach, who was last in the director’s chair for White Noise, stars George Clooney, Adam Sandler, Laura Dern, Eve Hewson and Riley Keough. Plot details are under wraps.
Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery (TBD)
The A-list cast of the third film in Rian Johnson’s ensemble murder mystery series (in addition to Daniel Craig) includes Josh O’Connor, Andrew Scott, Glen Close, Jeremy Renner, Mila Kunis and Kerry Washington.
Warfare (TBD)
Civil War filmmaker Alex Garland and Iraq war veteran Ray Mendoza are behind this real-time movie about an Iraq war siege involving American Navy SEALs. Kit Connor, Will Poulter, Charles Melton, Joseph Quinn and Cosmo Jarvis are among the cast.
The Smashing Machine (TBD)
Dwayne Johnson stars in The Smashing Machine as Mark Kerr, a two-time UFC Heavyweight Tournament Champion, a dramatic turn for the blockbuster regular. Uncut Gems co-director Benny Safdie wrote and directs the movie that also star Emily Blunt.
