This year marks the 35th annual awards show for GLAAD (Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation), and continues to be the largest LGBTQ awards show in the world. As with previous years, the awards are presented in two groups at two separate ceremonies, the first of which took place on March 14 in Beverly Hills, California and was hosted by Wayne Brady. The recent Los Angeles gala featured honorees like Oprah Winfrey, who received the Vanguard Award for her “decades long commitment to allyship,” and Niecy Nash-Betts, who was awarded the Stephen F. Kolzak Award, celebrating those who fight against homophobia and discrimination in the entertainment industry. There were also performances by Hudson (her new single “Talk About Love”) and Chlöe, who debuted her newly-released song “FYS” live for the first time.

2024 GLAAD Media Awards: Host and Nominees
For the East Coast ceremony, Hudson and Peck are joining a roster of new honorees that includes Marren Morris, Judith Light, Ava DuVernay, Patti LaBelle, Debra Messing, Tyra Banks, Julianne Moore, Barbra Walters, Diane Sawyer and more. The Drew Barrymore Show co-host and RuPaul’s Drag Race judge Ross Mathews will host the gala, set for May 11 at the Hilton Midtown in New York City.
Hudson is being honored with an excellence in media award for being an ally who has “made a significant difference in promoting acceptance of LGBTQ people.” This includes The Jennifer Hudson Show, which is nominated for a GLAAD Media Award for outstanding variety or talk show episode for “Jennifer Hudson Surprises HIV Activist with $10,000.”
Country artist Peck will take home a Vito Russo award, which is given out to an “LGBTQ media professional who has made a significant difference in accelerating LGBTQ acceptance.” Previous honorees have included Wilson Cruz, Billy Porter, Anderson Cooper, Ricky Martin, Andy Cohen, RuPaul, Cynthia Nixon, Samira Wiley and George Takei, and many others.
