George Foreman may have been a heavyweight world champion and Olympic gold medalist, but for a whole generation of home chefs, he was also associated with the George Foreman Grill.
First introduced in 1994, the portable indoor grills quickly became synonymous with the boxing star after he appeared in weekly informercials promoting the products. The athlete-turned-pitchman even had his own tagline for the grills: “It’s so good, I put my name on it!”
Aside from the A-list endorsement, the George Foreman Grill was also revolutionary at the time for promoting indoor grilling. Since the units were powered electrically, there was no need for charcoal or flames, and parent company Spectrum Brands used the term “smokeless grills” to describe its product line.
Foreman, meantime, touted the grills with helping him stay in fighting shape, thanks to the unique angled design and raised ridges, that allowed excess grease and fat to drip into a separate reservoir away from your food. The boxer called it his “Lean Mean Fat Reducing Grilling Machine,” and millions of shoppers bought into the craze, using a Foreman Grill for everything from chicken to salmon and vegetables.
The grill became a staple in dorm rooms and studio apartments alike, as an easy and “healthy” at-home cooking device for new chefs. It was also used by families to prepare hot dogs, paninis, pancakes and other kid-friendly foods, while barbecue fans loved the ability to make steaks and burgers year round. The George Foreman Grill still remains a bestseller today as Amazon’s most popular indoor grill.
It’s not just hype either: Spectrum Brands says it has sold more than 100 million George Foreman grills and counting, with sales worldwide. And while Foreman didn’t invent the grill, his name will always be associated with it — according to reports, Foreman signed over naming rights in perpetuity in 1999, for a cool $137 million.

Like all George Foreman grills, this one features dual-sided grilling plates and a non-stick coating. The brand says this entry-level model has been updated too, preheating 35% faster “to get you from plug-in to plate in record time.”
LATEST RELEASE
George Foreman Fully Submersible Grill
The brand’s latest release is the Submersible Grill Series, which allows the entire grill to be put into the dishwasher for easy cleaning (only the grilling plates were dishwasher-safe in previous models). There are other upgrades too, per the brand, like a 3X more durable nonstick grill plate, a more compact size (just four inches thick) and a new hinge that lets you cook thicker burgers or cuts of meat while still staying closed. Reviewers, meantime, say the grilling surface offers more consistent and even heating, so every spot is a sweet spot for cooking.

George Foreman 2-Serving Classic Plate Electric Indoor Grill
The cheapest George Foreman grill you can pick up online is this two-serving model, which is ideal for singles and couples, or people with limited counter space. Like the models above, this grill features the brand’s famous “fat removing slope,” which can remove up to 42% of fat from a quarter-pound of ground beef, per the product description.
INDOOR/OUTDOOR
George Foreman Indoor Outdoor Electric Grill
While the Foreman brand was famous for its indoor grills, they also make this model, which is suitable for both indoor and outdoor cooking. The large rectangular shape features 200 square inches of grilling surface to make more than 12 servings. Choose from five different heat settings. The grill comes with a drip tray as well as a removable stand.
ALL-IN-ONE DEVICE
George Foreman Beyond Grill 7-in-1 Electric Indoor Grill with Air Fry Technology
The George Foreman brand got into the air fryer game in recent years too, and this 7-in-1 model can grill, fry, roast, bake, slow cook, broil and act as a warming tray. Both the pot and grill feature a non-stick coating, and they are both removable and dishwasher-safe. The pot has a six-quart capacity. The grill, meantime, heats up to 500 degrees fahrenheit and the brand says your meat can go from frozen to finished in about 20 minutes — no defrosting necessary. Reviewers say this is a must-have device for quick and easy meals, and more than 83% of shoppers have given this air fryer a full, five-star rating online.
