New York City Homes With Private Pools: Photos

We see a lot of pools in listings these days. Brooklyn Tower will, one day, have a trio of them on the roof of the old Dimes Savings Bank. Even a rent-stabilized studio in Bushwick can come with swimming privileges. But a private pool that’s not an above-ground in Whitestone? That feels fun. A couple of properties hit the market within the last week offering an assortment of options, which launched a mini-debate: Which pool is your pool? For those with patience to keep them free of debris and properly chlorinated (or, more realistically, the funds to hire someone), there’s probably just enough time to close on one of these homes before a mid-season heat wave.

This Carroll Gardens converted two-family townhouse conjures a mid-tier spa cut with a little bit of Bond villain lighting: The main pool is a 12-by-24-foot heated saltwater joint, with an adjoining seven-by-seven-foot Jacuzzi, all set with custom bluestone coping. There’s also a lounge area on the garden level fitted with a wet bar and gas fireplace, which leads to a pair of bedrooms with custom-built closets. Not bad.

$75 million can get you a lot of things: Basquiat’s 1982 devil painting (before fees); your name on a university building; and now, a penthouse in Chelsea that comes with the “largest private outdoor pool in New York City,” per the listing. Beyond the exclusive 61-foot rooftop pool with views of the Hudson River, the full-floor apartment — currently owned by former Howard Hughes Corporation CEO David Weinreb — recently underwent a three-year renovation and is dripping with the kinds of over-the-top design choices that you’d expect with a $75 million price tag (plus $41,000 a month in taxes and common charges). There are 500-pound custom doors securing the elevator vestibule entrances, a chef’s kitchen designed by Jean-Georges Vongerichten with a Lacanche Sully 2200 range, and 18-foot floor-to-ceiling windows in the living room. Bill Ackman likes it!

Moving to Ditmas Park is basically one step removed from escaping to the suburbs, so why not lean hard into cul-de-sac living with a backyard pool? This seven-bedroom, three-story Arts and Crafts home on Argyle Road comes with an in-ground Modpool surrounded by a wooden deck, which is adjacent to the outdoor dining patio. Inside, the kitchen is anchored by a prep island and equipped with top-shelf appliances, including Wolf ovens and an induction cooktop for preparing pool-party snacks. Taxes total $505 a month. You will be the envy of all dads at P.S. 139. (Or, really, Brooklyn Waldorf.)
So which pool are we getting?
