Pete Maravich’s Son Says Dad Would’ve Been ‘Big Fan’ of Caitlin Clark

The son of basketball legend Pete Maravich says that his dad would have been a “big fan” of Iowa basketball star Caitlin Clark, as Clark quickly approaches Maravich’s NCAA scoring record.

“I think my dad would have been a big fan of hers,” Jaeson Maravich told Yahoo. “She’s just so much fun to watch.”

Pete Maravich set the NCAA career scoring record in 1970 with 3,667 points at LSU. Clark sits 50 points short of Maravich’s record with two regular season games remaining. She set the NCAA women’s basketball scoring record earlier this month, passing former Washington star Kelsey Plum’s 3,527 career points.

However, even as she approaches the overall scoring record set by Maravich 54 years ago, Jaeson says it’s apples to oranges when comparing the two scoring marks relative to the eras in which the records have been achieved.

“The circumstances are so different that it’s hard to say it’s really the same record,” Jaeson said. “I don’t want to make it seem like I’m bashing her because I’m not. I just find it to be an applies to oranges comparison.”

Even with Jaeson holding this belief, he’s still rooting for Clark.

“I’ll be rooting for her and I’ll be happy for her when she does it,” he said.

The No. 6 Hawkeyes are back in action on Wednesday night on the road against Minnesota.
