In a move seemingly engineered to make football fans feel old, the son of one of the early 2000s’ most consistent wide receivers has chosen a college for next season.
Elijah Burress, a wide receiver in the Class of 2025 at DePaul Catholic High School in Wayne, N.J., has committed to Notre Dame.
Burress is the son of Plaxico Burress, a Super Bowl champion wide receiver for the Pittsburgh Steelers, New York Giants and New York Jets from 2000–08 and 2011–12.
The elder Burress played collegiately at Michigan State from 1998–99; the Spartans defeated the Fighting Irish twice during his tenure there.

He went on to a lengthy NFL career that included four 1,000-yard seasons, including one with the Giants in 2007 the year they won the Super Bowl—although his tenure with New York ended under acrimonious circumstances after he inadvertently shot himself in the right leg at a New York nightclub.
Notre Dame is scheduled to open its 2024 season on Aug. 31 against Texas A&M.
