Publix Is Selling a Chantilly Cake Ice Cream for Summer

What’s better than your favorite store-bought cake when summer comes around? A chillier version of it in a pint. Florida-based grocery chain Publix is renowned for several reasons: There are the beloved “pub-sub” sandwiches, fried chicken that keeps customers coming back, and service that’s known for always being friendly. But there’s one more reason you should make a pit stop at Publix, and it involves a sweet treat.

The Chantilly Cake from this supermarket’s bakery section has been beloved by shoppers for some time, and now there’s even better news — Publix is currently selling its own limited-edition Chantilly Cake Ice Cream that fans can’t stop raving about.

This is far from the first time the light and fruity cake has been transformed into other tasty variations. In April, Whole Foods launched a limited-edition Berry Chantilly Latte (inspired by its wildly popular Berry Chantilly Cake), which remains available in stores until July 1. The Amazon-owned supermarket chain also offers a vegan ice cream alternative, the Berry Chantilly Cake Almondmilk Non-Dairy Frozen Dessert from 365 by Whole Foods Market.

As one Redditor demonstrates, shoppers often compare (and argue over) the versions of this cake offered at Whole Foods and Publix, commenting that the Southern grocery chain’s rendition “Can’t be as good as Whole Foods real Berry Chantilly cake, can it? That stuff is fire.”

Publix customers who were already major fans of the grocery store’s Chantilly Cake have been thrilled with the limited-edition ice cream. Meanwhile, those who haven’t tried it yet are eagerly trying to get their hands on a pint, leaving comments online like, “I’m running to Publix right now,” and “It’s storming here but now I don’t even care, I’m getting some.”

What’s in the Chantilly Cake Ice Cream from Publix?

For anyone unfamiliar, the Berry Chantilly Cake from Publix consists of a vanilla sponge cake infused with almond flavoring, a light and fluffy chantilly frosting made with mascarpone, along with fresh strawberries and blueberries nestled inside.

Channeling the flavors of this fruit-forward vanilla cake, the frozen treat is made with white cake ice cream, berry swirls, and bits of almond-flavored cake.

“Our limited-edition Chantilly Cake Ice Cream was inspired by our Chantilly Cake, found in the bakery, which is a customer favorite,” Lindsey Willis, media relations manager at Publix Super Markets, tells Food & Wine. “You can find this [ice cream] flavor in most stores now through the summer.”

In addition to the Chantilly Cake Ice Cream, Willis confirms that, “available now are several other unique, summer flavors like Piña Colada and Peanut Butter Pretzel.”

An Alabama-based reviewer who tried the Chantilly Cake Ice Cream for the first time confirms it tastes just like the original dessert and hopes Publix will keep this new treat in its freezer aisles all year round.

Another Reddit user, after finally finding the ice cream at their Publix location in North Carolina, writes, “It is absolutely delicious. The base tastes like white birthday cake, and there is a nice berry swirl and mini chunks of cake pieces mixed throughout the ice cream. I bought two pints, and I’m going to try to savor them as much as possible.”

After witnessing the success of Whole Foods, it makes sense for Publix to harness the popularity and marketing power of this cake by integrating the versatile flavor into new products.

Here’s hoping Publix will develop even more delicious ways for everyone to all enjoy its Chantilly Cake, perhaps in the form of chocolate bars or frozen yogurt… but for now, we’ll be stocking up on these pints.
