Tony Romo Admits He’s Been Trolling All of Us With Swift-Kelce Marriage References

The burgeoning Taylor Swift-Travis Kelce romance has been one of the biggest storylines in the NFL this season, and with the Kansas City Chiefs’ AFC championship win over the Baltimore Ravens last weekend, it will continue into Super Bowl LVIII on Feb. 11.

Tony Romo will be the color commentator for CBS that day, and for weeks now it’s seemed as if he’s been confused about the status of their relationship. There have been several instances during CBS broadcasts of Chiefs games in which he’s implied that the famous couple already is married: including Kansas City’s matchups against the Buffalo Bills on Dec. 10, the Las Vegas Raiders on Dec. 25 and the Bills again on Jan. 22.

Of course, the two only have been dating for a few months, and as far as anyone knows, aren’t particularly close to tying the knot. During a Thursday media session, Romo acknowledged he’s been making a running joke, with an apparent nod to his relationship with pop star Jessica Simpson while he was the Dallas Cowboys’ quarterback.

“It’s a joke,” Romo said, via CBS Sports. “Someone did that to me back in the day. … People come up to me all the time [asking], ‘What do you know?’ People love it and go crazy for it.

“It’s Taylor. She’s just as big a personality as anybody in the world right now. I think it’s a great thing that she’s at football games. I think it just adds value, and I think our team does it the right way. … It just comes out organically.”

Now that the joke’s out there, we’ll see if he makes one more Swift-Kelce marriage reference during the Big Game. In any case, Romo met Swift after the Chiefs’ win in the AFC championship game, and although the chat seemed quite awkward, it doesn’t sound as if the pop star is particularly annoyed about it—if she is aware of the joke.
