Real Madrid ‘Unhappy’ With Rayo Vallecano Draw, Says Coach Ancelotti

Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti revealed his team wasn’t happy with just a point taken from Rayo Vallecano on Sunday but added that it could still help them win the league come the end of the season.

Los Blancos went 1-0 ahead within five minutes in Vallecas thanks to a Joselu strike, but VAR then awarded the home team a penalty after Eduardo Camavinga was deemed to have handled the ball with Raul De Tomas converting the resulting spot kick approaching the half hour mark.

“I think we started very well with the ball and scored. More could have been scored, there was a shot against the post by Federico [Valverde]. Until the penalty, we did everything right. After the penalty the game changed, there were more duels, more fighting, more interruptions,” Ancelotti reflected post-match.

“It wasn’t easy to look for ideas in that situation. We fought for it, [and] it was a draw that doesn’t make us happy, but we kept going. We are very well positioned. Calm, calm and prepare well for the next match,” the Italian demanded.

Ancelotti was asked if a draw being criticized was an indicator of how well the season is going.

“What can I say. That’s fine. You have to win every game, but to win the league it’s important that you don’t lose the games you can’t win. Sometimes there are draws that hurt a bit, but in the end it can be a positive step to help us win the league,” the Los Blancos manager pointed out.

“After the draw it was a different game, which we don’t like to play, with a lot of fighting, a lot of interruption. It was different from the beginning. You have to accept it, sometimes games are like that,” he reiterated.

“But we competed, that’s the important thing, although we didn’t find solutions in the second half.”

Despite this, Ancelotti refused to accept that his side lacked intensity.

“We played with intensity, the truth is that Rayo played a very good game, very intense, interrupting the game. The approach worked out well. We are left with one point, today it does not make us happy, but in the future it can be a positive point,” Ancelotti repeated.
