Real Madrid Has Already Given Kylian Mbappé This Iconic Shirt Number

Real Madrid has already allocated Kylian Mbappe one of football’s most iconic numbers, which he will wear at the Bernabeu from the 2024/2025 season onwards according to OK Diario.

In a bombshell development earlier this week, Mbappe told his current club of almost seven years Paris Saint-Germain that he will not renew his contract and therefore leave them.

Other clubs interested in Mbappe include Liverpool and Arsenal. And while MARCA reported that talks between the two camps have hit a brick wall thanks to Mbappe’s notoriously difficult mother Fayza Lamari playing hardball at the negotiation table, it is widely expected that the 25-year-old will join Madrid when he becomes a free agent on June 30 after two failed attempts to make the transfer happen in 2017 and 2022.

According to OK Diario, Madrid intends to get the deal hashed out and then announce Mbappe’s move between the end of the club season and the Russia 2018 winner joining France’s camp for the European Championships which start in Germany on June 14.

Mbappe could also be unveiled at the Bernabeu during the mentioned period, and already has a number picked out for him the same outlet reported.

With Karim Benzema’s number 9 likely to be designated to Palmeiras prodigy Endrick, Real Madrid reportedly wants Mbappe to wear the number 10.

It is currently occupied by club legend Luka Modric, but he is expected to leave at the end of the season when his contract expires with a big-money switch to Saudi Arabia or an adventure in the MLS two possible outcomes for the Croat.

While Mbappe has worn the number 7 at Paris, which was donned by one of his idols Cristiano Ronaldo when he played for Madrid, he also wears the 10 for the French national team.

The jersey has proven lucky for the forward on international duty, and saw him secure his country a second World Cup at Russia 2018 where he also became the first teenager since Pele to score in the final against Modric’s Croatia.

In Qatar in winter 2022, Mbappe scored a hat trick at the same stage but it still wasn’t enough to beat Lionel Messi’s Argentina who eventually won on penalties.
