Retired Lego Star Wars R2-D2 Gets $72 Prime Day Discount, But You Should Hurry

Released as part of Lucasfilm’s 50th Anniversary celebration in 2021, this R2-D2 is a black-box Star Wars Lego set, which means it’s more of a display model and is geared toward adults.
When complete, the 2,314-piece R2-D2 Lego model measures 12.5 x 7.5 x 6 inches, so while it’s not an extremely large set in terms of overall space, it’s an intricate build with many little flourishes and features that make it stand out as a display piece. This includes interactive components pulled from the movies: rotating head, retractable leg, adjustable periscope, and a front hatch that opens and extends outward. There’s also a secret storage compartment for Luke Skywalker’s lightsaber.
This R2-D2 model also comes with a display plaque with details about the droid, an R2-D2 minifigure, and a Lucasfilm 50th Anniversary stand for the minifigure. For collectors out there, it’s worth noting that this R2-D2 model is the only Lego set with the Lucasfilm 50th Anniversary brick.
Lego released a smaller, 1,050-piece R2-D2 buildable figure last year for $100–but it’s on sale for $80. The newer R2-D2 is recommended for kids ages 10 and up, and while it still looks great, the build process is not nearly as elaborate as the the larger R2-D2.
