Samsung Recalls Over 1 Million Slide-In Electric Ranges Due to Fire Hazard

If you’ve purchased a Samsung range in the past several years, check your model stat. Samsung recently recalled its Slide-In Electric Ranges due to a fire hazard. The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) stated that the front-mounted knobs on these ranges can be activated by accident, which could cause a potential fire.

This recall impacts roughly 1,120,905 units sold between May 2013 and August 2024 at appliance stores nationwide, including Best Buy, Costco, The Home Depot, Lowe’s, and Samsung.com.

Several model numbers have been included in this recall. To find the model number on these ranges, the CPSC suggests checking the “inside upper left corner of the oven door or inside the storage bin located on the bottom of the oven.”

Currently, there have been more than 300 reports of these front-mounted knobs being activated unintentionally by a person or pet. Due to these unintentional activations, there have been roughly 250 fires reported with about 18 fires causing property damage. So far, 40 injuries have taken place with eight needing medical attention. Seven fires took the lives of pets.

If you’ve purchased one of these recalled ranges, contact Samsung directly at 833-775-0120, email at rangesupport@sea.samsung.com, or visit samsung.com/us/support/range-knob-kit for a free set of knob locks or covers that fit your particular model. Those who use these recalled ranges without locks or covers should take extra precautions. Always keep pets and small children away from the knobs, never leave anything on the range even when not in use, and remember to check they are off when not in use.

The CPSC strongly urges consumers to always follow proper fire safety guidelines, when using ranges, stating: “Never place, leave, or store anything on the top of your range. Such items can ignite if the range is accidentally activated or left on. Fires can occur when items are left on the top surface of any range that is accidentally activated or left on.”
