Seth Rogen Challenges the Claim That Comedy Is Harder Now in This Political Climate: ‘Not a Valid Complaint’ | Seth Rogen | Just Jared: Celebrity News and Gossip

Seth Rogen is hitting back at claims from some comedians that comedy is hard now in the current political climate.

The 42-year-old filmmaker and comedian spoke to Esquire in a cover story, and addressed some complaints lately that comedy is difficult amid a more politically correct (“P.C.”) culture.

“The complaint that comedy’s harder than it used to be is not a valid complaint,” he said.

“Maybe it was too easy before. And why should it be? Why shouldn’t it be hard? I like that my job is hard, because I’m trying to do something that requires a huge amount of resources and people’s time and energy.”

While he acknowledged the line between acceptable and offensive has changed, he argued that’s always been the case.

“What do you wish you could say?” he asked.

“What do you feel has been taken from you? It’s always funny when people are like: Oh, they could never make the Diversity Day episode of The Office today. You can still watch it…I’m constantly meeting teenagers who love Superbad and who think it holds up, and none of them are like: How f–king dare you have said that?”

Even Donald Trump becoming president again hasn’t changed his opinion.

“It’s not like we sit down like, all right, new president, what movie do we write?” he said. “I assume that’s what Adam McKay is doing, but it’s not how we choose what we’re going to work on next.”

As far as examples of comedians saying it’s hard these days, Jerry Seinfeld recently said “funny stuff” doesn’t exist on television anymore because of “extreme left and PC crap and people worry so much about offending other people,” which co-star Julia Louis-Dreyfus also disagreed with as well.
