Shawn Mendes opened up about his career and love life in a new interview.

During an appearance on SiriusXM’s How’s Life, the 26-year-old hitmaker looked back on his frame of mind after cancelling his Wonder Tour in 2022. He admitted to host John Mayer that he contemplated quitting the industry and even had an idea about a different career that he would pursue.

Elsewhere in the conversation, Shawn revealed his thoughts on dating again. The comments come a few weeks after he revealed that he is still figuring out his sexuality.

After cutting his tour short, Shawn said that he “absolutely” considered stepping back from music. He even took a few months off even touching a guitar.

What would he have done if he picked a different career?

“I have no idea. For real, I seriously thought about, I actually took a small therapy course and I was like, ‘I might just become a therapist in a small town,’” he said. “It’d be weird at first for everyone, and then eventually they would just get used to it.”

Elsewhere, Shawn confirmed to John that he was ready for his next relationship.

“Yes. For sure. I think, yeah. I guess as long as we’re living, we are healing,” he said about getting back onto the dating scene.

Would he be willing to date another fellow songwriter?

“I wouldn’t stop myself from falling in love with another songwriter,” he said, agreeing that he also wouldn’t say no to dating another celebrity. “It’s a no-brainer to me that the suffering that is from hearing a song maybe talking about you in a way you don’t want to be talked about is not even close to the beauty of falling in love with someone for the first time.”

“It’s a funny feeling to feel like you’re being written about, and like maybe the whole picture is not being expressed,” he added.

Shawn also seemingly alluded to a rumored love triangle involving him, Sabrina Carpenter and Camila Cabello.
