Simone Biles Uses These Products for Healthy Hair on and Off the Mat

It’s Simone Biles’ world, and we’re just living in it. At least for the moment, while the Olympics are going on. Biles just helped the women’s gymnastics team earn gold, and in the process, became the most-decorated Olympic gymnast ever. Not to mention, she still has four more events coming up. So needless to say, she doesn’t have time to worry about her hair. Biles recently partnered with K18, and her hairstylist Jazmine Johnson gave us all the details about what products Biles uses to keep her hair gold medal-worthy, even while competing.

Wondering what some of Biles’ favorite products are? According to Johnson, “The K18 Molecular Repair Hair Mask and Oil are regular[s] in her hair health regime.” The mask helps repair damage, while the oil is an essential when she competes. “You’ll often see her hair in a slick[ed] bun and ponytail, and that’s where the oil comes in,” Johnson says. “Simone loves the hair oil because it immediately smooths frizz and flyaways, adds vibrancy and shine, and also serves as a heat protectant.” (And the K18 Molecular Repair Hair Oil is the one product Johnson would recommend to everyone, too.)

“One of the reasons she enjoys the hair mask is because each day she trains, her hair is under constant tension from being in a bun or a ponytail,” Johnson explains. “The hair mask helps revitalize the strands from the inside and helps improve her overall hair health.”

You only have to leave the mask in your hair for four minutes to notice results, according to the brand. It uses patented technology to repair damage caused by color, bleach, chemicals, and heat to leave your strands feeling strong yet smooth and soft.

Biles’ may be flying during competitions, but her hair isn’t, thanks to this oil. “It’s great at reducing frizz and flyaways, which are bound to happen when you are twirling and twisting high in the air and working up a sweat,” Johnson says.

The hair oil contains squalane and natural sunflower and avocado oil to moisturize and repair breakage that can lead to frizz. Plus, it provides heat protection up to 450 degrees Fahrenheit. Johnson adds that it’s lightweight enough that Biles’ hair doesn’t feel matted down, noting, “It’s a dream product that works hard enough to maintain the frizz and create the sleek pony look but is light enough to still let the hair feel natural and airy.”

K18 Peptide Prep Detox Shampoo

“I’ve recommended this shampoo to her, and she has loved it ever since,” Johnson says. “It does wonders getting down to the scalp to break up product buildup and does so in a gentle way by not drying out the hair.”

The pH-optimized shampoo cleanses without stripping away your hair’s natural oils to prevent dryness. It’s formulated with activated charcoal to absorb dirt and excess oils and salicylic acid to clear clogged hair follicles. According to Johnson, the Detox Shampoo is great to use about once a week to refresh your hair.

K18 Damage Shield Protective Shampoo

While the Peptide Prep Detox Shampoo is great for getting hair really clean and removing product, Johnson says that “the Damage Shield pH Shampoo and Conditioner are ideal for her standard wash days.”

Made for all hair types, including color-treated hair, the shampoo is gentle enough to use every time you wash. The formula is pH-optimized to mimic your hair’s natural pH, which helps reduce cuticle swelling to minimize frizz and maintain color for healthy, shiny strands.

Per Johnson’s recommendation, pair the Damage Shield Protective Shampoo with this conditioner for hydrated hair. Not only does it help reduce and repair breakage from styling, but it also protects against UV rays and pollution. The ceramide blend strengthens hair and seals the cuticle for smooth locks.
