Sonic Releases an All-New Two-Patty Smash Burger: the Sonic Smasher

Sonic Drive-In is ready to introduce you to its brand-new burger.

On Monday, the fast-food restaurant announced the new Sonic Smasher, which it called an “elevated burger experience like no other” that can rival any sit-down burger experience, but starting at just $6.49. (Though it’s key to note that the price can vary by location as individual franchise owners set their pricing.)

“Consumers should be able to indulge in a premium cheeseburger without having to pay the high costs charged by many fast-casual burger brands. Our mission at Sonic has always been to bring fun, craveable food to our guests at unbeatable prices,” Ryan Dickerson, the chief marketing officer at Sonic, shared in a statement provided to Food & Wine. “With the Sonic Smasher, our culinary experts have allowed us to take that commitment to the next level. This burger is not just hand-smashed — it’s a blend of textures and flavors that come together for a cheeseburger that’s crispy, juicy, and melty all at once.”

The burger, Sonic further explained in its release, is always hand-prepared and smashed to order. It includes two Angus patties layered with two slices of American cheese, signature Smasher sauce, crinkle-cut pickles, and diced onions and served on a potato bun. If this somehow isn’t enough you can also order the Sonic Triple Smasher, which comes with an extra patty, starting at $7.49.

The burger is exclusively available starting today through the Sonic App and will be available nationwide beginning on August 5.

This isn’t the only deal Sonic is offering. This summer it also debuted its $1.99 Menu, aka its FUN.99 Menu, which includes snack, entrée, and dessert items all priced at $1.99 each. Still, for Sonic, the new burger is the star of the show.

“We’re confident that once you try the Sonic Smasher, it will quickly become your new favorite cheeseburger,” Dickerson said. “And the best part is, you can enjoy it at a price you won’t feel guilty about when you come back for it again and again.”
