Kevin Durant isn’t one to succumb to peer pressure, and if that much wasn’t obvious before, it certainly is after hearing about how things played out during 2019 NBA free agency.
After his third and final season with the Golden State Warriors, Durant had a tough decision to make about his future, and apparently, both his agent and father badly wanted him to sign with the New York Knicks.
So much so that Durant confirmed on the latest Boardroom Cover Story that his agent, Rich Kleiman, had “Knicks blinders” on. Ultimately, Durant signed with the Brooklyn Nets, but Kleiman was candid about how badly he wanted the 14-time All-Star to choose their crosstown rival.
“You definitely did, you definitely did, more than anything,” Durant said. “… My dad, you, love the Knicks,” Durant continued. “My aunt loves the Knicks.”
Kleiman agreed that Durant’s dad was “with him, heavy” in holding out hope that the future Hall of Famer would choose the Knicks.
But while Kleiman was surely disappointed his client didn’t head to the Big Apple, he praised Durant for always doing what’s best for him and his game, and said he respected the decision.
