“Barbara Walters Tell Me Everything,” a documentary about the iconic late journalist, is now streaming on Hulu following its premiere at Tribeca Film Festival this month.
Walters, who died in December 2022, was famous for her work across programs like “Today,” the ABC Evening News, “20/20” and “The View.” Directed by journalist Jackie Jesko, and executive produced by Brian Grazer and Ron Howard, “Barbara Walters Tell Me Everything” charts Walters’ career and personal life as well as “the challenges she faced trying to balance it all as a woman in a male-dominated industry.
Walters, in her own words, also reflects on the high price of fame and the legacy she hoped to inspire,” the official description reads. It utilizes unaired archival footage including interviews with Cindy Adams, Joy Behar, Connie Chung, Martin Clancy, Andy Cohen, Katie Couric, Peter Gethers, Lori Klein, Cynthia McFadden, Bette Midler and dozens more.
“She’s mentioned in the same sentence as feminist icons, but she wasn’t a crusader. She wasn’t Gloria Steinem,” Jesko told Variety ahead of the doc’s Tribeca premiere. “She wasn’t doing it for other women. She was doing it for herself.”
“We shouldn’t require that of our feminist icons,” the director said. “She made it possible for other women, and she loved that once she realized it, but it wasn’t what drove her. She was upfront about it: ‘I didn’t do it for other women, but I’m so glad that I did it and other women benefited.’”
The documentary is now streaming on Hulu, currently offering a free trial. Sign up below:
