Disney+ Picks Up Korean Drama Wonderful World – The Hollywood Reporter

Disney+ is continuing to bolster its library of Korean series by picking up the revenge drama Wonderful World.

Debuting on the streamer on March 1, Wonderful World tells the story of Eun Soo-hyun, a successful female professor of psychology and writer whose life unravels after her son is murdered. Driven to despair, Soo-hyun becomes consumed by revenge.

The series stars veteran actress Kim Nam-joo (Misty, Queen of Housewives) as Soo-hyun and up-and-coming actor Cha Eun-woo (True Beauty, A Good Day to be a Dog) as Gwon Seon-yul, a medical school dropout who bonds with Soo-hyun over their similar traumas.

Wonderful World is written by Kim Ji-eun, who penned Channel A’s Lie After Lie (2020), one of the highest-rated dramas in Korean cable television history, and also wrote the soapy drama Cheongdam-dong Scandal. The series is directed by Lee Seung-yeong (Voice season two, Trace).

Following the massive success of the superhero drama Moving, Disney+ has leaned into becoming a destination for original Korean dramas. The addition of Wonderful World follows the streamer recently picking up Light Shop, the next television series from Moving writer Kang Full. The streamer also snapped up Shin Yeon-shick’s period drama Uncle Samsik, the television debut of Parasite actor Song Kang-ho.
