7 Cleaning Items You Should Always Buy at Costco

Want to save money on everyday essentials? Stocking up on cleaning products at Costco is a smart way to cut costs while keeping your home spotless. The warehouse giant offers a vast selection of cleaning supplies, but with so many options, it can be hard to know which ones are worth buying. After all, no one wants to be stuck with a giant bottle of cleaner that doesn’t work as expected. To help you shop smarter, we asked two cleaning professionals to share their top Costco cleaning picks.

Floor Cleaner

Robin Murphy, president of Maid Brigade, says Bona Hardwood Floor Cleaner is one of her favorite cleaning products to pick up at Costco. “It’s my go-to wood floor cleaner,” she says. “It dries quickly and leaves no residue.”

You can buy a spray bottle of the cleaner along with a large refill bottle so you can tackle spills and accidents easily—and you’ll have plenty of product on hand when the spray bottle runs out.

Hand Soap and Multi-Purpose Soap

Hand soap is something that always seems to run out faster than expected, so it helps to buy it in bulk at affordable prices. Murphy loves Mrs. Meyer’s Hand Soap since it not only gets the job done but also smells great. “Whenever I go to Costco, I grab a pack of Mrs. Meyer’s Hand Soap—it’s plant-based, smells amazing, doesn’t dry out my hands, and actually works,” she says.

If eco-friendly cleaning products are a must-have in your home, be sure to add Dr. Jacobs Pure Castile Soap to your cart, too. “This is a completely junk-free product that’s gentle and versatile,” Murphy says. “It takes care of dishes, laundry, cleaning produce, even my dogs.”

Laundry Detergent

Laundry detergent can be rather expensive, but it’s something you definitely can’t skip out on. Luckily, at Costco, you can save big on name brands, like Tide. Logan Taylor, founder of Dazzle Cleaning Company, says his favorite laundry detergent is the Tide Free and Gentle Liquid Laundry Detergent. “It’s great at removing stains and doesn’t irritate skin with eczema,” he says.

Dish Soap

Unless you only eat takeout, dirty dishes are inevitable, so dish soap is a must-have. Taylor specifically recommends the Dawn Platinum Advanced Power Liquid Dish Soap, which can be found at Costco in an extra-large size that will last you for quite a while. Taylor says he even uses this product beyond the dishwasher. “I put this in many of the [DIY] cleaners I make at home—it’s also a great stain remover,” he says.

Sponges

Dealing with extra-dirty surfaces? Taylor recommends always keeping Scotch-Brite Zero Scratch Sponges on hand. “We use these sponges at Dazzle,” he says. “They’re tough on one side, soft on the other, and reduce the risk of scratching surfaces.”

Just keep in mind that Taylor advises against using the rough side of the sponge on stainless steel, but it’s a great choice for most surfaces.

Cleaning Towels

Paper towels can be costly and they’re not the best choice for the environment. This is why Taylor loves using microfiber bar towels as a more sustainable alternative. “I don’t use paper towels, so I always keep plenty of these on hand for cleaning and wiping up,” he says. “They last forever.”
